Lady Gaga is an American singer, songwriter and performance artist.

She began performing in the rock music scene of New York City's Lower East Side.

Before making a name for herself, Lady Gaga wrote hit songs for labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, the Pussycat Dolls, as well as for Britney Spears.

The Lady Gaga schedule has been set for "The Monster Ball" tour. The stops include North America, Britain, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Three Free English Classes in Toronto Canada

FREE English classes at LSC (124 Eglinton Ave. W. #400)
Do you want to improve your English? Why not join our FREE English classes at LSC?

Where?
LSC 124 Eglinton Avenue West 4th floor (near Yonge and Eglinton)

When?
Monday to Friday from 3:15 - 5:15
The courses start on Monday January 31, 2011 and will run for 4 weeks, ending on February 25, 2011. You can join any time!

What do students learn?
We have 2 levels of classes where you study grammar and vocabulary and work on improving your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Who are the teachers?
We have a University of Cambridge teacher training programme called the CELTA. As part of the course the teachers-in-training need to teach real students.

Is it really free?
Yes, if you attend 80% of the classes in one month. There is a $35 deposit but we will refund your $35 if you attend 80% of the classes.

Who attends these classes?
People from many countries attend the CELTA free classes... People from Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. Most of the free class students are in Toronto for a temporary period of time.

The ESL English instruction is provided by volunteers. The volunteers have patience, enthusiasm, good-will towards all and some even have ESL teacher certification.

The ESL English conversation classes are divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced language skill levels.

Conversation topics include current events, vacations, where to get stuff cheap, some politics, funny things about Canada, job training, career suggestions, where to go to school.

The FREE ESL English conversation classes have operated at St Paul's for over two years now and have helped adults, newcomers to Canada and students from Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Cameroon, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Italy, France, Spain, Ivory Coast and many other countries. You can meet new friends from around the world.

In the simplest terms an internet phone plugs into your internet connection and it works at any time - just like a regular phone! An internet phone uses a different transmission configuration and different set up and operation but very simply it is a phone.

Can I use my regular home phone number?

95% of the time - Yes you can.


Can my friends call me on their regular phone or do they need a computer?


Your friends and family can call from their regular phone just like they always do.

Will you explain the 4 or 5 different types of internet phones?

Yes - we can explain how they work and the benefits/shortcomings of the different types.

Vocabulary for Restaurant Conversations

Good evening ..A formal greeting generally used after 6pm.

recommend ..To give advice that will help a person make a choice

appetizer..That part of the meal that is served before the salad or the main course.

escargot..An appetizer of snails which have been baked inside a pastry.

tender..easily chewed and digested

marinate..To let food soak in a substance for a certain amount of time so the food will absorb some of the flavor of that substance. (overnight - for or during the entire night)

half an order..A partial amount of a whole order. Example: If an order of Escargot is 6 snails, half an order would be 3.

entre..the main course of a meal (word borrowed from the French)

wonderful..excellent or great, better than just good

mood..A person's emotional state or feeling.

soup de jour..the type of soup being served on a particular day

baked..cooked in an oven

filet mignon..a type of beef steak, generally considered one of the best steaks served in American style restaurants

charbroiled..cooked on open flames

prepare..to make, to cook

medium..Steaks are prepared according to temperature. Example: A steak that is medium rare is not cooked all the way through. The center is still red and cooler than the outside of the steak.

dressing..a type of sauce put on salads for flavoring

dinner..evening meal, generally eaten around 6:30pm

server..waiter or waitress

Margarita..an alcoholic beverage made with tequila and sweet and sour mix

on the rocks..served over ice

combo plate..a plate of several types of food

2010 Toronto English Plus Summer Camp

The 2010 Toronto English Plus Summer Camp will operate in July to August.

ESL in Canada has made arrangements for special ESL English classes to operate at some of the attractions and events to supplement the in-class English school lessons.

This 2010 Toronto English Plus Summer Camp program is open to schools, international groups, companies, youth organizations and tour leaders who wish to travel to Canada with their students.

Participants can choose programs from 1 to 8 weeks. The listed planned events can be switched or altered to accommodate bad weather or to attend extra special events.

Instruction, activity and tour days can vary from 12 to 14 hours.

Dorm rooms are available, singles, doubles, and quads

Meals can be supplied at the student dormitory

We require six students to operate a class

Indy Toronto July 16, 2010 to July 18, The IndyCar Series stops in Toronto for the Honda Indy Toronto where the Indianapolis 500 stars and cars compete on the exciting street circuit at Exhibition Place. Ancient Peru Unearthed: Golden Treasures of a Lost Civilization.
The mysteries of the pre-Incan Sicán culture are revealed through a collection of elaborately crafted objects excavated from an undisturbed gold-filled tomb in the Batan Grande site on the northern coast of Peru. The tomb was uncovered by archaeologists in the 1990s. Over 100 artifacts will be on display, including gold crowns, elaborate headdresses, masks and jewelry, as well as pottery and metal objects.
